About Me

My name is Nurul Syazwani Ahmad Sabri, and I am an academic writer, researcher, and scientific communicator with a background in microbiology and more than a decade of experience in both academic and research fields. Throughout my career, I have developed a deep love for writing, especially in areas that touch science, the environment, and public health. I believe in the power of words, and I find great purpose in helping others express complex scientific information in ways that are not only accurate, but also meaningful and digestible to a broader audience.

My journey began in the field of microbiology. I earned my Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Microbiology from Universiti Sains Malaysia, followed by a Master in Philosophy (MPhil) and a PhD at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. My research work has ranged from vascular tissue engineering to microbial diversity in soil systems. Each phase of my education and career has deepened my understanding of scientific processes, methodologies, and most importantly — the people behind the data.

Professionally, I have worked in various research and academic roles: as a postdoctoral researcher, assistant manager in a science development company, research assistant, and currently, a senior lecturer at Universiti Utara Malaysia. My work has involved managing research projects, conducting molecular and genomic analyses, assisting postgraduate students, and developing scientific articles. I’ve also contributed to the academic audit and quality assurance of university programs. Along the way, I discovered that I not only enjoy doing research — I truly enjoy communicating it.

I’ve written and published numerous scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals, presented my work at international conferences, and contributed to public science communication via magazines such as Dewan Kosmik. Among my favorite articles to write are those that connect science with real-world contexts, such as the relationship between gut microbiota and emotional development in infants, or the application of microbiology in sustainable agriculture. These experiences have reinforced my belief that science is not meant to be locked in journals or confined to academic labs — it must reach communities, inform policy, and empower everyday people to understand and act.

That is why I am now transitioning toward freelance work. I want to use my experience and skills to help others — researchers, students, institutions — communicate their ideas with impact. I focus on academic writing, thesis formatting, research editing, and translating scientific content into simpler language. I believe I differ from others not just in technical skill, but in the way I approach communication. To me, writing is not about correcting grammar or aligning headings — it’s about protecting the integrity of someone’s voice, and ensuring that their message gets heard.

In academic writing, many students and even researchers struggle with structure, clarity, and citation formatting. One of the most common and underestimated pain points is reference formatting — and I enjoy helping others clean up these final yet crucial details. I offer formatting services that include table of contents, page layout, APA or MLA reference formatting, and abstract translation. My clients know me as someone who’s reliable, responsive, and respectful of their work.

Aside from academic support, I also aim to contribute to the larger goal of making science more accessible. I plan to write more public-facing science content and produce educational articles that blend accuracy with storytelling. I want to show people that science is not too difficult — it just needs to be told better.

Personally, I am someone who finds joy in quiet productivity. I am introspective, observant, and drawn to meaningful conversations. While I am used to navigating through challenges silently, I am learning that vulnerability and clarity can coexist with professionalism. My lived experiences including navigating career transitions, burnout, loneliness, and rediscovering purpose, have made me more compassionate, more grounded, and more determined to build a life that is gentle but impactful.

Ultimately, my goal is simple but meaningful: to help others find their voice through writing, and to bring science closer to the people who need it most.
