THE SCHOOL, JAYA ONE: 26th September 2025. We attended the opening ceremony of First City University College's Sequence 2025 today at The School, Jaya One, Petaling Jaya, and the sparks of creativity were undeniable.
The event kicked off with inspiring speeches from the Students' Showcase President Edmund Liew Chi Hin, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Saw Sor Heoh and Guest of Honor, IDr Joe WH Chan, the Deputy President of Malaysia Interior Designers Institution.
This event's opening ceremony was followed by the gracing the opening ceremony by the Guest of Honors, who put the sparks together to create light. Truly, an opening that ignited the stage for the days ahead.
After the opening ceremony, we stepped right into the realm of design excellence with 56 graduates from the Faculty of Design and Built Environment. The hall was alive with sparks of creativity, from Fashion Marketing to Graphic Design, Interior & Architecture Design, and Furniture & Product Design. Each showcase revealed bold ideas and crafted works that pushed boundaries, giving us a firsthand look at the passion and innovation driving these young designers.
Edmund Liew Chi Hin - BA (Hons) Fashion Marketing
Edmund, besides being the President of Sequence 2025, is also the one and only Fashion Marketing student in the whole showcase, the thorns among the roses shall we say?.
Edmund's work mixes a lot of graphic design elements, with fashion design and he headed towards the direction of mass market fashion design.
And armed with the power of two design disciplines, Edmund created a merchandise line comprising of shirts and bags. Both fashion items carrying a sense of branding alongside the entire line. The collection stands as a testament to his skill in merging style with thoughtful branding.
Lim Jun Yan - BA (Hons) Furniture Design
This furniture caught my eye for the super comfortable looks. You wouldn't know Jun Yan is still a student when you see his furniture designs. Jun Yan is passionate about Physics, as such, he incorporated physics calculations into his furniture design works.
His Physics calculations managed to get this particular project to be stable longer, comfortable for the body (without the need of a cushon) and in creative ways. This is one of the few i'd shortlist as a true creatively designed furniture. It’s a perfect example of innovation meeting functionality in furniture design.
Daniel Wong Wei Choong - BA (Hons) Graphic Design
Daniel is well versed in static graphic design and motion graphic designs. He mentioned during the showcase that his favorite artstyle is more towards bold designs, as shown in the "Anonymous User" campaign poster.
While in the showcase, he mainly showed his static graphic design skills, based on our conversation with him, he's got good skills in motion graphics as well. In fact, he's well versed with indesign software as well.
Interior Designers throughout the showcase, have been sparking up some out-of-the-box concepts based on historical monuments in Malaysia. This was the first of its kind that we've seen.
