Annually, there's a logo and theme for our National Day, released by the Communications Department of Malaysia. When there's a logo, there's always a theme that follows it.
As Malaysians will together, celebrate our 68th National Day, on 31st August 2025. Let's take a look at the list of Logos and themes released by the communications department of Malaysia since 1976, before we see the full breakdown of 2025's version.
For your information, the very first logo was released in 1976, with the theme, "Ketahanan Rakyat". Prior to that, Malaysian Communications department only released the theme, without a logo.
Let's take a look at some of the iconic logos, made famous during its era, that is still in our minds today.
1) Wawasan 2020 (1991)
This logo was the logo to start the Wawasan 2020 (or Vision 2020) ideation. It was the theme of the 1991 Merdeka Day which calls for the nation to be a self-sufficient by the year 2020.
2) Keranamu Malaysia (2000 - 2006)
"Keranamu Malaysia" logo design refers to the symbolism of a multiracial society that is pluralistic and dignified the culture in this country. If you were in school during the early 2000s, this was the logo you've seen so many times.
3) Malaysiaku Gemilang (2007)
Another one that was symbollic during the 2000s, was the "Malaysiaku Gemilang" logo which featured a 50 on the logo, celebrating the 50th Malaysia Independence day. The usage of circles in this logo, represents the fast development of the nation over the past 50 years since Tunku Abdul Rahman shouted "Merdeka" seven times.
4) 1Malaysia: Rakyat Didahulukan, Pencapaian Diutamakan (2009 - 2011)
This logo was the most iconic in the 2010s, probably because it was shown almost everywhere. The 1 shape symbolises unity as one nation, with the Malaysia flag shown inside it. Below, the phrases of "Rakyat Didahulukan, Pencapaian Diutamakan" represents the people's needs are prioritised.
5) Keluarga Malaysia Teguh Bersama (2022)
Some might remember how iconic this logo was, because it looks like the wifi symbol. However, there's a greater meaning behind the logo. The logo represents Malaysia's significant push towards communication systems infrastructure and digitalisation. While the Keluarga Malaysia theme that went with it, represents unity in its people.

The theme of 2025's National Day, is Rakyat Disantuni, which shows the government's vision to strengthen the development of the country while prioritising the needs of it's people are met.
Meanwhile, the logo of "Malaysia Madani" is used as the official logo of this year's National Day. The left side of the logo (look like hand) represents our palm when reciting the "Rukun Negara".
These Logos and Themes Represent The Nation's Growth
Malaysia's Communications Department has been creating logos and themes for Malaysia's National Day and Malaysia Day, every year since 1976. Each of the logos follow an iconic moment, and historical moment of our nation's growth.
The logos and themes are not generic, but each one of them represents a step in growth for Malaysia. From the spirit of "Perpaduan" in the late 1970s and early 80s, to "Wawasan 2020" in the 90s and all the way to the current, "Malaysia Madani" in the 2020s.
