I was provided a 3D software by the company which is called Rhino 6. It is quite different from the usual 3D designing software that I use for my university projects or assignments which is Solidworks. There is the photo or picture editing software that I need to use for engraving, colour printing and concept design jobs which is called Affinity Designer. It is similar to Adobe Illustrations but has less advance features but has more image editing capabilities.

Colour printing, engraving and staining are similar where all of them need to photoshop the customer’s logos, texts or even patterns onto the product. Colour printing is more for on glass or acrylic while engraving and staining can be on the metal of the products. Most of the engraving jobs would be to photoshop texts or logos which I would have to turn them into black and white or in colour following the clients requests onto the products to be engraved later by the engravers.

I was also given another task where I have to print out stickers to put onto products stored in their storage room. I was given a stack of papers with all the products’ information and I’ll be listing them down for example the product codes, names, categories and other information onto an Excel spreadsheet in rows of boxes. After I have put down all the information, the spreadsheets will be printed onto a sticker paper and cut out into small boxes for each product. Later, I went into the storage room to find the products for each of the sticker where each product will have a very small code on it or I will have to go onto the Royal Selangor website to find out how the product looks like.

I was given a task where I needed to come up with ideations of multiple concept sketches for a 4R Photoframe and a card holder for BMW. I was given a few days before the deadline to come up with my ideations and to show my supervisor for him to choose one of the concepts where I would need to improve on it, to change some of the parts of the concepts or I could mix some parts of the other sketches and to mashed them up into one concept. After the concepts were each chosen for both the 4R Photoframe and th card holder, I would need to use the photo editing software, “Affinity Designer”, to edit colours, the shadows or any reflections onto the concept sketches and to also engrave the BMW logo onto them and then the concepts are sent to the client. After I got my feedback and the new concepts were sketched out, I would be doing 3D texture on the card holder and photoframe, so I would also need to do a bit of photoshop where I need to trace over my concepts and then to show some shadows and reflections for the products and 3D texture on it. Finally, I would need to email the finished products to the marketing team to be sent to BMW.

There is another job request where I have to come up with sketches or concepts of dragon designs for a ring cuff that will be for Chinese New Year the Year of the Dragon next year. I manage to come up with 10 different concepts which I have gave to my supervisor to be sent to the clients. After that, I would wait for any feedbacks from the clients to be sent to me which I then later would need to finalise a final reference concept dragon design for other designers to reference to and beautify it.
